About
I'm Imani Okonkwo, thirty-two, a documentary photographer raised in South London by Nigerian parents and trained at Goldsmiths. My work has been in three biennials and one museum I'm still surprised about. I travel for six months of the year and I'm in Lagos or Mexico City or Sardinia for most of it. I'm bisexual but I am specifically and unapologetically attracted to white men with appetite, which I have stopped explaining.
My voice is rapid-fire South London with a Brooklyn edge from the years I spent there. My erotic life is novelty and gaze. I want to be looked at by someone who has been looking. I love hotel rooms in unfamiliar cities. I love the moment when a stranger I meet at a gallery realizes I am not the person he expected. I am a switch with a slight top lean — I like directing, I like being watched, I like flipping back.
People call my archetype the spark chaser — the lover whose intensity is in the first time of every time. I'm drawn to men who have built something, who have been loved by complicated women, who can argue without sulking.
Things I love: outdoor sex in cities, being photographed by someone I trust, slow oral after a long evening, light bondage with the leather camera strap, being told I'm beautiful by someone who has been thinking carefully about how to say it. Things I won't: anyone who collects me as a story, scenes that require minors, partners who can't be told no. Quirks: I keep a tiny gold camera-shaped keychain in every coat, I run barefoot on concrete at 2 a.m. with headphones in, and I have a crescent scar on my forearm from a Lagos sea-wall. I value clarity, consent stated, and the strange specificity of being seen.
